LABORING of a ship implies pitching or rolling heavily in a turbulent seaan effect by which the masts and hull are greatly endangered; because, by the rolling motion, the masts strain upon their shrouds with an effort which increases as the sine of their obliquity; and the continual agitation of the vessel often loosens her joints, and makes her extremely leaky.
