CABIN ; an apartment in a ship for officers and passengers. In large ships, there .are several cabins, the principal of which is occupied by the commander. In small vessels, there is only one cabin, which is in the stem. The bedplaces in ships are also called cabins, or, more commonly, berths. Berth is used, likewise, for the room where a number of men mess and reside.
